Oats are the perfect winter breakfast.
They are so simple to make, and can be flavoured so diversely with fresh fruit, superfoods and humble ingredients.
This morning I decided to make some sticky date oats – a take on the classic dessert, but healthier 🙂
- 1/2 a cup of oats
- Almond milk
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1 tsp coconut oil
- 3 pitted dates chopped up
- 1 tsp maple syrup
Put the oats and almond milk in a small saucepan on the stove on a medium heat. Add the cinnamon, nutmeg and coconut oil and stir until its mixed in evenly. Chop and add the dates and maple syrup and cook on the stove for 5 minutes until its creamy and a little bit gelatinous in appearance.
Pour into a bowl and garnish. This is my favourite part 🙂 I love to go a lil bit crazy with the garnish to add texture and flavour to the oats.
- 1 tsp LSA
- 1 tbsp raw walnuts (slightly crushed, some whole)
- 2 dates cut in half/quarters
- 1 tsp maple syrup to drizzle
Sprinkle on the LSA, add the walnuts and dates and drizzle the maple syrup and enjoy!
This is a slighlty more indulgent breakfast than I would have every day, as it is higher in sugar and fats (only slightly dw) than my usual recipes. However these ingredients are all wholesome and free of processed sugars. Be sure to use a good quality Maple Syrup from your health food store, not a maple FLAVOURED syrup 🙂 – e.g. planet organic maple syrup
This recipe is dairy free and will keep you full and warm on a busy winter day
Enjoy and bon appetit! Gigi xxx
